Vocabulary is the collection of words you know and can use. The more words you have, the easier it is to understand what you hear and read, and to say exactly what you mean. A strong vocabulary is not only about knowing what a word means; it also means knowing how the word is spelled, how it sounds, and which other words it usually appears with.
You do not need to learn every word at once. Choose a small group of useful words, see them in sentences, say them aloud, and use them in your own speaking and writing. Review them a few days later so they stay in your memory. Picture cards, word lists and short quizzes can all help. Explore the topics below, or watch our free vocabulary videos on YouTube.
